Breaking Into News – the search for fresh new TV talent

We have received the following from Samaj member Nimesh Joshi to inform Samaj members of an interesting opportunity in television journalism. Nimesh is a content editor for ITV News Central:

I thought I’d let you know about Breaking Into News, an initiative set
up by Media Trust and ITV News to find new talent and give opportunities
to broadcast journalists of the future.

WHAT IS BREAKING INTO NEWS?
The scheme is designed to support young people from across the country
that wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to gain industry insight.

Applicants must be aged 18-25, with no or limited media or broadcasting
experience. I thought this might be of interest to you to pass on to
anyone you think might be interested in this scheme.

Finalists will be mentored by top journalists, to produce their own
local news report on issues that matter to them. Nine finalists will be
chosen, one for each ITV News region (including Central).

PREVIOUS BREAKING INTO NEWS FINALIST
Monika Plaha from Leamington Spa took part in the scheme in 2012 and was
mentored by ITV News Central’s Health reporter Victoria Davies. Monika
was awarded a prize for her final report on skin whitening, which you
can view
