On the evening of Saturday 28th February 2009, our Samaj held this years Maha Shivratri Celebrations at the Ram Mandir in Leicester. The event also marked the Punia Tithi of our Bardai Santh Trikamji Bapu.
Excellent varied bhajans were performed by the Saraswati Bhajan Mandal from Leicester. The audience really got involved in the modern quwwali type bhajans; a fresh approach. Everyone was enticed for 2 hours as the mandal performed bhajan requests to everyones liking.
The evening ended with Thal and Arti, a thank you message from the Samaj Management Committee Officers and farar prasad. The Secretary, Harshad Joshi, thanked the co-ordinator (Harshaben Joshi) for organising the successful event. The Management Committee was pleased that the turnout was better than expected, surpassing previous years figures.
Chirag Vithlani, from the bhajan mandal, is also involved in a charity which helps poor heart patients in India with treatment and surgery. A set of 3 CDs of bhajans from the Kathiavadi region of Gujarat was made available at a cost of £10 with proceeds going to this worthwhile charity. This set is unique in that for the first time, not only did it contain the bhajan lyrics in English, but understandable bhajan meanings in English were also included.
